A splash of spring colour

I’ve been going for a walk after work in a park near my home and this greeted me this afternoon. A burst of colour which lifted my spirits in these depressing days.

Design Inspiration: 5

Hand towel for quilt ideaI’ve been reading some posts lately about quilters seeing ideas for quilts all around them and I’m no exception.

I was out shopping for Christmas gifts last night (trying to avoid a last-minute rush) and I saw this hand towel.  Well of course it came home with me – there is a future quilt idea in there with slightly different colours.

It reminded me of this quilt by Tara Faughnan which is a free pattern on the Michael Miller fabrics website.  It is another quilt on my to-do list which seems to be growing every day.

Michael Miller fabrics are my favourite solids because of their colours and soft drape.  They would be perfect for these ideas.

The humble tissue box has also got my quilty ideas flowing – I’ve never done an equilateral triangle quilt but I would love to do one in these colours.

I particularly like the colour combo on the end of the box.

I hope you find some design inspiration in your day!

The run of the table!

Yea, I have now finished the table runners for my work colleague’s house warming gift.

Table runner 2Some details:

Length is 71 inches – so it was difficult to get a good full-length photo

Front – Kona Pool, Kona Jade Green and Kona Pearl Pink, unfortunately I don’t know the name of the main fabric. I bought it several years ago and there are no details on the selvedge.

Back – Kona Pool and Anna Maria Horner’s  Aloe Vera in lime from her Pretty Potent range

Binding – Kona Jade Green

Runner detailI like the colours in this one, although if I did it again I would add a bit more contrast to the back.

Now on to making some more kittens for my quilt – I’d love to finish that over the Christmas break from work.

Happy stitching!
